Do I need BLS (Basic Life Support)?

Fast decision

BLS (Healthcare CPR)

Most common for healthcare roles & programs. If your badge/job says clinical, it’s usually BLS.

  • Typically required for: nurses, CNAs, EMT/EMS, medical/dental staff, students.
  • Includes: adult/child/infant CPR, AED, and team-response concepts.
  • Priority: AHA BLS is the most commonly requested in healthcare.

CPR / First Aid / AED (Non-healthcare)

Workplace & caregiver. Great for general jobs, parents, teachers, coaches, and safety policies.

  • Tip: if your employer says “BLS,” don’t book this—book BLS.
  • Always confirm: accepted organization (AHA / ARC / ASHI).
Explain it in one sentence
If it’s healthcare/clinical → book BLS (usually AHA). If it’s general workplace/caregiver → book CPR/First Aid/AED.

Time & What to Expect (BLS)

Quick

Fast, focused class

Most BLS classes run about 2.5 hours. It’s streamlined and performance-based.

  • Hands-on coaching (not a long lecture).
  • Adult, child, and infant CPR + AED skills.
  • Team response concepts included (healthcare focus).

Which option do I pick?

For AHA BLS: whether you’re initial or renewal, you’re placed into the same quick in-person class.

  • If you don’t have HeartCode, choose the full in-person class.
  • We’ll guide you step-by-step during skills.
  • Best move if unsure: book AHA BLS.
Heads up: If you’re doing a skills-only route, that’s typically for ARC/ASHI (online provided by us + in-person skills). For AHA BLS, we recommend completing everything through the full class.

AHA vs ARC vs ASHI for BLS

Organization

AHA (Priority)

Most common in healthcare. If your hospital/clinic/program says “AHA,” book AHA.

  • Common needs: hospitals, clinics, EMS, nursing/medical programs.
  • Best match: “AHA BLS” requirements.

ARC & ASHI (Accepted by some policies)

Often used in workplace/public settings. Great if your policy lists them as accepted.

  • ARC: commonly requested as “Red Cross.”
  • ASHI: sometimes used for safety/compliance policies (varies by employer).
  • If unsure: confirm accepted organization before booking to avoid retaking.
Exactly what to ask your employer/school
Ask: “Which organization do you require for BLS—AHA, ARC, or ASHI?”

Skills Sessions (BLS)

Paths

AHA (Recommended: Full Class)

If your requirement is AHA BLS, we recommend the full class so you finish everything in one guided experience.

  • Most accepted option for healthcare settings.
  • Hands-on coaching + real performance evaluation.
  • Best choice if you’re unsure what your policy means.

ARC & ASHI (Skills Session Path Available)

We do offer ARC and ASHI skills sessions: online portion (provided by us) + in-person skills evaluation.

  • Complete the online portion first (we provide it).
  • Then schedule your in-person skills session.
  • Confirm your employer accepts ARC or ASHI before booking.
Quick rule: If your employer/program requires AHA BLS, choose the full class. For ARC/ASHI, we offer the online (provided by us) + in-person skills session path.
