BLS vs CPR / First Aid / AED

Fast decision

BLS (Basic Life Support)

Healthcare CPR. Most common for hospital/clinic roles and healthcare programs.

  • Typically required for: nurses, CNAs, EMT/EMS, medical/dental staff, students.
  • Includes: adult/child/infant CPR, AED use, team-response concepts.
  • Houston: AHA is commonly required in healthcare settings.

CPR / First Aid / AED

Workplace & caregiver. Most common for non-clinical requirements.

  • Typically required for: childcare, teachers, coaches, workplaces, parents.
  • Includes: CPR + AED plus first aid topics (based on course title).
  • Tip: confirm which organization your employer accepts.
Explain it in one sentence
If it’s clinical/healthcare → book BLS. If it’s workplace/caregiver → book CPR/First Aid/AED.

ACLS & PALS

Advanced

ACLS

Advanced adult response. Commonly required for ER/ICU/critical care and many nursing roles.

  • Who takes it: clinicians managing adult cardiac emergencies.
  • Format: scenario-driven, performance focused.
  • Required: prep work must be completed/submitted prior to class.
  • Included: we provide the prep work free upon registration.

PALS

Advanced pediatric response. Commonly required for pediatric ER/ICU, NICU/PICU, EMS, urgent care w/ peds.

  • Who takes it: clinicians managing pediatric emergencies.
  • Format: scenario-driven, performance focused.
  • Required: prep work must be completed/submitted prior to class.
  • Included: we provide the prep work free upon registration.
Reminder: ACLS/PALS aren’t “walk in and done” — there’s prep work first (provided free upon registration). Follow your employer/school organization requirement.

AHA vs ARC vs ASHI

Organization

AHA

Most common in healthcare. Often required for BLS/ACLS/PALS in Houston.

  • Common needs: hospitals, clinics, EMS, nursing/medical programs.
  • Courses: BLS, ACLS, PALS + general CPR options.

ARC & ASHI

Common in workplace/public settings. Great when your policy lists them as accepted.

  • ARC: often requested by childcare/schools/workplaces as “Red Cross.”
  • ASHI: often used for workplace safety policies (varies by employer).
  • If unsure: contact your employer/school to confirm accepted org.
Exactly what to ask your employer/school
Ask: “Do you require AHA, ARC, or ASHI?” and “Do I need BLS or CPR/First Aid/AED (or ACLS/PALS)?”

Skills Sessions

Paths

AHA (Recommended: Full Class)

For AHA, we strongly recommend the full class so you complete everything in one guided experience (less confusion, fewer mismatches).

  • Best experience + smooth completion.
  • Hands-on coaching built in (not just a quick check-off).
  • Especially important for ACLS/PALS where prep + performance matters.

ARC & ASHI (Skills Session Path Only)

For ARC and ASHI, we offer the skills session path: we provide the online portion, then you come in for the in-person skills evaluation.

  • Complete the online portion first (we provide it).
  • Then schedule your in-person skills session.
  • Confirm your employer’s accepted organization before booking.
Quick rule: If your employer/program requires AHA, choose the full class. For ARC/ASHI, the path we offer is online (provided by us) + in-person skills session.
